Creative Programming using Scratch

In this 3-day workshop for primary school students, they will create their own interactive stories, animations, games, music, applications and art with Scratch Programming. Designed for beginners with no previous experience in coding, this programming tool enhances one’s problem-solving skills and allows kids to grasp logical and mathematical concepts when developing the games.

At the end of the course, participants will be able to

  • Design and develop simple games
  • Enhance their problem solving skills
  • Grasp logical and mathematical concepts to help him/her develop creative games

Course outline

  • Day 1
    • Getting to know Scratch interface
    • Learn about sprite movements
    • Controlling sprite using mouse and keyboard
    • Game design concept
    • Exploring the blocks
  • Day 2
    • Changing background
    • Saving and opening projects
    • Adding audio effects
    • Declaring and using variables
    • Control the stage with multiple costumes
  • Day 3
    • Understanding programming constructs
    • Using coordinates
    • Game token design trick
    • Controlling the game using broadcasts
    • Basic online safety awareness

Dates: 5, 6, 7 September 2016 (Monday to Wednesday)
Time: 1pm – 4pm
Suitable for: Aged 7 – 12

Solve Mathematical Problems with Python

In this 3-day workshop for secondary school students, Python equips the learners with skills to apply programming knowledge to solve mathematical problems. Students will find how amazing that the programming skills they will acquire could enable them to solve some of the difficult mathematical equations. They will learn from our experience lecturer on how to simplify the code so that students could grasp the programming concept easily.

At the end of the course, participants will be able to

  • Understand the syntax and semantics of Python Programming Language
  • Enhance their problem-solving skills
  • Grasp logical and mathematical concepts that help him/her to develop creative programmes

Course outline

  • Day 1
    • Getting to know Python interface
    • Learn about the syntax and semantic of Python programming language
    • Identify and correct syntax errors
    • Create a simple programme
  • Day 2
    • Declare and use different types of variables
    • Learning about sequence, selection and iteration constructs
    • Develop programmes that incorporate the 3 programming constructs to solve problems
    • Hands-on exercises
  • Day 3
    • Develop programmes to solve mathematical algebra
    • Develop programmes to simulate differentiation and integration in mathematical context
    • Hands-on exercises

Dates: 3, 10 & 17 September 2016 (Saturday)
Time: 1pm – 4pm
Suitable for: Aged 13 – 16
